Within the meticulously curated haven that is Claudia Lambert's beautiful Sydney residence, the celebrated interior designer discusses the art of crafting spaces that evolve alongside the lives and experiences they cradle. Beyond mere aesthetics, Lambert's design ethos celebrates each space's personality, intricately tailored to the rhythms and narratives of its owners. The result? Timeless interiors, each uniquely shaped by its own story and the lives unfolding within.

Claudia’s journey to design began with a background in psychology, where she spent a decade as a family therapist. As she embarked on motherhood, she launched an interiors blog that gained high recognition. This acclaim opened doors to home styling, ultimately propelling her into a thriving full-time design career. Now, from the heart of her own transformed space, she invites us to discover the secrets of building our own timeless homes.

"My guiding principles for design are leaning into a home's unique spirit, working with how my clients want to live their lives in a functional and beautiful way, and creating a thread throughout the home that connects the people to the spaces."

Claudia's signature lies in her artful use of design elements. Playful textures and a unique approach to colour palettes define her work, all anchored by timeless bases like neutrals or classic tones. This foundation provides a canvas for juxtaposing pops of colour and statement art pieces. The result? Vibrant expressions of individuality that never go out of style. Art sits at the heart of her process, sparking endless inspiration and becoming the focal point of many of her creations.

“It's always art for me. Art is my greatest love, it guides all my designs and brings me so much inspiration. Since I don't have the artistic gift of creating artwork myself, I use others' art to create a mood and set the scene in a space.”

Claudia's favourite room in her home is the living room, where she skilfully merges vintage Italian design with contemporary elements. This space exemplifies her knack for blending styles to craft a harmonious and inviting atmosphere, serving as a testament to her talent in creating cohesive interiors from diverse elements.

“My favourite part of my home is my living room. I adore Italian design from the ‘60s and ‘70s, so having my Alanda sofa and Le Bambole chair blended with some more contemporary pieces makes me very happy. Occasionally, I change up the cushions and lighting to refresh the mood, but overall, this is my favourite space that I have ever created.”

When it comes to enlivening neutral spaces, Claudia focuses on subtle design elements. She prefers one-of-a-kind art pieces for her walls to infuse personality. As for floors, Claudia enjoys experimenting with patterns, textures, and colours, opting for Double’s newest Neutrals Collection. This collection offers a modern take on timeless neutral palettes through reimagined prints and designs, featuring machine-washable rugs that blend form and function while enduring trends.

“I love the new Double Neutrals collection so much, it's an easy way to transform a room and give it a bit of a fresh start.”

Balancing form and function is crucial in Claudia's designs. She values modern decor that combines aesthetics with practicality, highlighting how her machine washable rugs from Double are an ideal solution for maintaining both beauty and functionality in high-use areas like dining rooms. Her approach ensures that every piece serves a purpose while contributing to the overall aesthetic.

“Every space needs a functional element, but overall, I prioritise form, especially in my own home. There are so many creative people now making furniture that covers both bases. For instance, I usually err on the side of caution with a dining table rug, but brands like Double have filled that void. You can whip it out, wash it, and it's good to go again after a spill.”

Claudia's advice for those looking to recreate her aesthetic at home is to follow their instincts and invest in pieces that speak to them. She recommends starting with a hero piece and building around it, using paint and quality art to create a cohesive and personalised space. Her emphasis on intentionality and personal resonance in design encourages homeowners to curate spaces that truly reflect their individuality.

Claudia Lambert’s journey and approach to design offer valuable insights for anyone aiming to enhance their living spaces. By emphasising individuality, timelessness, and the balance between form and function, she crafts homes that are not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful, creating environments where people can truly feel at home — time after time.

“I go by instinct. I buy what I love and what speaks to me. I take my time and slowly build the curation, buying intentionally instead of filling a space for the sake of it.”
