• Terrain and Wander use a hand-knotted wool construction.
• Plains and Glade use a fine cut pile construction in New Zealand wool.
• Herd is woven as a wool flatweave.
• Grassland uses a tufted wool construction.
• Savanna is the exception, using a chenille construction made from recycled polyester and paired with Double Studio's two-part washable rug system.

Although the materials and constructions differ, every rug in the collection is machine washable.

• What is the difference between hand knotted, tufted, flatweave and chenille rugs?

Construction determines how a pattern appears, how a rug feels underfoot and how it performs in everyday use. Rather than applying the same motif across multiple surfaces, the Animal Prints collection explores it through five different constructions:

• Hand-knotted: Built knot by knot on a loom with no glue or secondary backing. The construction creates depth, flexibility and subtle variation across the surface, with the design visible on both sides of the rug. These are Double Studio's first hand-knotted rugs.
• Fine cut pile: A dense, low cut pile that gives the rug weight underfoot and a soft, tactile surface while maintaining clear pattern definition.
• Tufted wool: Yarn is worked into a backing to create greater structure and sharper edges within the pattern, producing the strongest definition in the collection.
• Flatweave: Handwoven without pile, creating a lighter, lower-profile rug that sits close to the floor and moves easily between spaces.
• Chenille: A smooth, low-pile finish that creates tonal variation as the fibres catch the light across the surface.
• Are natural fibre rugs better than synthetic?

They suit different needs rather than one being inherently better than the other.

Most of the Animal Prints collection uses wool because it gives these patterns texture, surface variation and stronger definition. Savanna takes a different approach with recycled polyester fibres, combining a soft feel underfoot with easier maintenance, a non-shedding surface and a more accessible price point.

The wool rugs in the Animal Prints collection will shed, as all natural fibre rugs do. Shedding is usually most noticeable during the first four months before reducing to a lower ongoing level, and it does not affect the rug's durability or performance.

Double Studio's anti-shed treatment helps minimise loose fibres, although some shedding remains a natural characteristic of wool.

If you would prefer a rug that does not shed, Savanna may be a better fit as it uses recycled polyester fibres instead.

160x230 suits smaller living spaces, home offices and bedrooms, while 200x300 and 250x350 are the most common choices for living rooms and larger bedrooms. For expansive open-plan spaces or oversized furniture layouts, 300x400 provides greater coverage beneath the seating area.

If deciding between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger option. Rugs that extend beneath more of the furniture tend to create a more balanced and cohesive look within the space.

• Can you layer an animal print rug with other rugs?
