Introducing ELEMENTAL, a new collection of rugs by Olive Cooke and Double Studio.
Drawn from landscape, memory and the objects Olive has collected around her, the nine-piece collection brings together organic and geometric forms, expressive colour and natural wool.
Each design begins with something personal, from shells collected in childhood and stones along a river's edge to changing seasons, birds and constellations, translated into rugs designed to become part of everyday life.
Olive Cooke’s approach to interiors is instinctive and deeply personal. Her spaces come together through colour, pattern, art and objects collected over time, shaped as much by memory and place as by any particular design language.
Based in Byron Bay, Olive is a creative director and designer working across fashion and interiors. Over time, the home has become an increasingly important expression of her creative practice, bringing together her eye for colour, material and form with a deeply personal way of collecting and living with objects.
ELEMENTAL brings this point of view into a new medium, translating the references, colours and forms she has gathered throughout her life into a collection of rugs.

In designing ELEMENTAL, Olive returned to the colours, forms and details that have stayed with her over time.
Grasses, pebbles and shells sit alongside birds, constellations and landscapes. Some references remain recognisable; others are reduced to a colour, shape or pattern and given a new form.
The palette comes from the same world: blue lagoons, volcanic rock, deep red sunrises and the sandy shores Olive grew up on. Fragments gathered from the world around her, woven together into the collection.
“So many of my closest memories and deepest joys have been shaped by nature and the outside world.”
For Olive, a rug is more than a finishing touch. It grounds a room, bringing warmth and comfort and creating a place for everyday life to unfold.
With a young family, practicality is considered with the same importance as colour, pattern and material. The result is a collection that feels expressive and beautiful, while designed to be lived on and easy to care for.
Natural wool sits at the heart of ELEMENTAL, chosen for its warmth, texture and the subtle variation it brings to each design.
Every rug is made with 100% wool pile, across hand-knotted and table-tufted constructions. Different techniques were explored for different designs, allowing pile, texture and depth to become part of how Olive's drawings and references are expressed.
The result is tactile and naturally characterful, while every rug in the collection remains fully washable and made for everyday life.
ELEMENTAL was photographed and filmed at Olive's home in Byron Bay, bringing the collection back into the environment and among the objects that helped shape it.
Captured among Olive's own furniture, artwork and collected objects, and within the rooms her family uses every day, the campaign brings the references behind the collection and the finished rugs back together. The landscape outside, the objects gathered within the home and the rugs themselves become part of the same world.

Elemental is Olive Cooke’s first rug collection, created with Double Studio. In designing the collection, Olive looked to the natural world and the references that have long appeared in her work. Grasses, pebbles, shells, birds, constellations and landscape appear across the nine designs.
Organic and geometric forms sit alongside expressive colour and natural wool, with different constructions used across the collection to shape the texture and depth of each rug. The collection brings Olive’s approach to home together with Double Studio’s knowledge of material and construction.
Olive Cooke is an Australian creative director, curator and homeowner. Her approach to interiors is collected and shaped by the objects she surrounds herself with and the meaning they gather over time. Her home brings together pieces that hold memories and stories rather than following a prescribed style.
The collection draws on places, memories and details that have stayed with Olive, from the shores where she grew up to blue lagoons, volcanic rock and deep red sunrises. Other references are more personal, including the birds on her wall and shells she collected as a child.
Some of these references are recognisable in the designs, while others come through in the shapes, colours and patterns.
The nine designs have a 100% wool pile, with the construction varying between the two rug types:
All rugs are ethically woven in India. Production is certified through GoodWeave, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 and Care & Fair.
Each design is available in four sizes:
The two constructions give the designs a different look and feel. Hand-knotted rugs have a more textured surface, giving the pattern greater depth, while fine cut pile creates a more even surface with greater pattern definition.
Both are hand-knotted from wool, but a premium hand-knotted rug has more than twice the knot density of the other hand-knotted rugs in the collection. This construction gives the Trove rug finer pattern detail, with smoother curves, crisper lines and greater definition. It also gives the pile a plusher, more substantial feel underfoot.
Yes. All nine rugs are washable, but the care method depends on the construction.
Act quickly when a spill occurs. Blot the area with a clean, damp cloth and a small amount of pH-neutral, wool-safe detergent. Avoid rubbing the stain, bleach and citrus-based cleaners, which can damage the wool.
For stubborn stains, repeat the process rather than scrubbing the surface. Use cold water throughout, as heat can cause wool to shrink.
The rugs in the collection will shed, as all natural fibre rugs do. Shedding is usually most noticeable during the first four months before reducing to a lower ongoing level, and it does not affect the rug's durability or performance.
Double Studio's anti-shed treatment helps minimise loose fibres, although some shedding remains a natural characteristic of wool.
Start with the furniture and layout of the room.
Elemental rugs come in four sizes, from 160 × 230 cm to 300 × 400 cm, giving you options for smaller spaces through to larger open-plan rooms.
The collection comes in nine colourways: Sand, Steel Blue, Red, Multi, Dark Teal, Slate Blue, Cloud Grey, Sandstone and Tan.
The palette moves between soft neutrals, earthy tones, deep blues and more expressive shades, from restrained neutrals to stronger colour.
Let the rug establish the pattern and colour in the room, then keep larger pieces of furniture relatively restrained. Pull one or two colours from the rug into smaller pieces around the room, rather than matching everything to it.
Olive’s approach is collected rather than highly coordinated, so layer in pieces you’re drawn to and let the room build from there.
Yes. Elemental rugs are designed for homes with kids and pets. Olive's experience of living with a young family shaped the collection, with practicality considered alongside colour, pattern and material.
