Wild South Collection
COLLECTION OF RUGGED BEAUTY

The Wild South collection carries Tasmania's most intimate invitation:
rugged beauty lived in your home.

TASMAN Brown

TASMAN Neutral
The dolerite cliffs of the Tasman Peninsula inspire Tasman – a study in grounded elegance. Strong structure, subtle tone; geological strength translated for the home.

EMBER Rust

EMBER Neutral
Along the Bay of Fires, burnt orange lichen clings to coastal granite – nature’s vivid defiance. Ember brings that contrast to life through rich, warm texture and quiet boldness.

TARKINE Green

TARKINE Neutral
In the Tarkine’s ancient forests, lichen drapes over bark in quiet continuity. Tarkine distills that natural texture into a gentle weave – organic, layered, and timeless.

CRADLE Green

CRADLE Neutral
In Cradle Mountain’s alpine meadows, wildflowers bloom against wind and weather. Cradle weaves that soft resilience into form – a balance of delicacy and endurance.

TEMPEST Steel Blue
Where wild Tasmanian seas meet storm skies – Tempest captures oceanic movement in stillness. Elemental yet refined, it channels the power of place into everyday living.

STILLWATER Silver Blue
Launceston’s Victorian facades whisper stories of craftsmanship in stone and shadow. Stillwater translates that heritage into woven form – refined structure, soft tonality, enduring character.

QUOIN Brown
Inspired by Battery Point’s solid quoined cottages – where masonry meets mastery. Quoin captures the strength of heritage architecture through clean geometry and grounded warmth.

FAQs
About Our Wild South Collection
- What makes the Wild South Collection special?
The Wild South Collection represents a unique collaboration between celebrated artist Jono Fleming and Double, translating Tasmania's untamed wilderness into table-tufted and handwoven pieces. Each rug captures the raw beauty and organic textures of Australia's southern landscapes, from ancient rainforests to windswept coastlines. Jono’s artistic vision combined with Double's innovative construction methods creates rugs that are both collectible art pieces and practical floor coverings, offering designer quality at accessible prices.
- How are these rugs different from your other collections?
The Wild South Collection represents Double's strategic collaboration with a renowned Australian designer and stylist, elevating our design philosophy through Jono Fleming’s unique perspective on natural landscapes. These rugs feature a combination of 100% New Zealand wool, organic cotton, and New Zealand wool blended with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified wool; offering premium quality with artistic integrity. What truly sets them apart is the marriage of fine art sensibilities with Double's practical functionality—most pieces maintain our signature machine washability while delivering quality design that transforms any space into a gallery of natural beauty.
- What textures are available in the Wild South Collection?
Our Wild South Collection features distinctive textures that deliver both artistic impact and everyday comfort:
- Fine Cut Pile – 100% premium New Zealand Wool in 18mm pile height, creating elegant texture with refined visual depth, perfect for sophisticated spaces.
- Medium Cut Pile – 100% premium New Zealand Wool in 18mm pile height offering substantial comfort with dynamic visual interest.
- Handwoven Wool – 100% premium New Zealand wool blended with OEKO-TEX®-certified wool in 23mm pile height, creating substantial texture and visual depth for premium comfort.
- Organic Cotton – 100% organic cotton in 8mm cut pile for lightweight, breathable texture with natural appeal.
Each texture maintains premium quality – naturally soft, wonderfully resilient, and surprisingly practical for everyday living. Like all our collections, these rugs combine beautiful form with practical function, creating spaces that look extraordinary and live exceptionally well.
Construction & Design
- How are these rugs manufactured?
Our Wild South Collection rugs are crafted using both innovative table tufting methods combined with traditional artisanal techniques. Each wool tuft is mechanically inserted through an organic cotton canvas base and secured with washable, water-resistant binding. This construction method allows for superior yarn anchoring, consistent pile height, and better backing adhesion—crucial factors that enable these premium rugs to be machine washable (except for the Cradle Washable Wool Handwoven rugs) while maintaining their artistic integrity and luxurious feel.
- Why can't the Cradle Washable Wool Handwoven rug be machine washed?
The Cradle rug's substantial handwoven construction makes it too heavy for home washing machines once wet—we're looking out for your appliances here. This traditional technique creates a beautifully robust piece built to last generations, and while it can't take a spin in your machine, it's still perfectly washable using other methods. The handwoven construction means this rug requires gentle, specialised care. We recommend targeted spot cleaning for minor issues or easy cleaning in your shower or bathtub for thorough refreshing using cool water and pH-neutral wool-safe detergent.
- What sizes are available in the Wild South Collection?
We offer four generous sizes to suit various spaces: 160×230cm, 200×300cm, 250×350cm, and 300×400cm. This range of dimensions ensures our Wild South Collection can accommodate everything from intimate reading nooks to expansive living rooms, allowing Jono’s artistic vision to enhance spaces of all scales.
Care & Maintenance
- How do I wash my Wild South Collection rug?
Care instructions vary by construction type within the collection:
For Machine-Washable Rugs (Ember, Stillwater, Tasman, Quoin, Tempest, Tarkine): Machine wash cold on a delicate cycle using wool-specific detergent (for wool pieces) or mild detergent (for organic cotton). Skip fabric softeners and bleach. Begin by air drying, then finish in the dryer on low heat for optimal texture.
For Handwoven Rugs (Cradle): Due to their substantial handwoven construction, spot cleaning is recommended for minor issues. For deeper cleaning, rinse gently in your shower or bathtub using cool water and pH-neutral wool-safe detergent. Never attempt full machine washing due to the weight and delicate weave structure.
- How long does it take for these rugs to dry?
Machine-Washable Rugs: Dry significantly faster due to innovative construction, typically taking 12-36 hours. The moisture-resistant materials and efficient water release of New Zealand wool, combined with excellent quick drying properties of organic cotton canvas, ensure quicker drying times.
Handwoven Rugs: Require longer drying times due to their substantial construction. Air-dry outdoors in natural sunlight when possible, ensuring the rug lies flat to maintain shape. Proper drying typically takes 24-48 hours depending on humidity and airflow.
- Will my Wild South Collection rug shed?
Each rug undergoes specialised anti-shed treatment, yet some natural shedding remains normal during the first 3-4 months at home. You may notice some wool fibres during the first few washes—this is completely normal and will diminish over time. While initial shedding diminishes over time, occasional shedding is expected throughout the rug's lifetime due to the delicate nature of the fibres—a natural characteristic that preserves the rug's authentic texture and artisanal character.
Materials & Sustainability
- Are these rugs sustainable and ethically produced?
Yes, our Wild South Collection reflects our commitment to sustainability and ethical production. The collection uses 100% New Zealand wool (a renewable, biodegradable resource where animals are not harmed), organic cotton, and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified wool. Our manufacturing takes place in SMETA-certified facilities that prohibit child labour and maintain Care & Fair membership. The facilities hold Green Category classification—the lowest environmental impact rating in India's industrial categorisation system. Additionally, our rugs feature azo-free dyes, which are non-toxic, biodegradable, and better for both sensitive skin and the environment.
- What certifications do your Wild South Collection rugs have?
Our Wild South Collection rugs are certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, ensuring they are free from harmful substances and safe for use in your home. The organic cotton canvas backing and wool pile meet this rigorous international standard for textile safety. Additionally, our manufacturing partners are ISO 9001:2015 certified, maintaining comprehensive quality management systems that ensure consistent product quality through standardised processes and continuous improvement. We're also proud members of Care & Fair, an initiative against child labour in the rug industry.
Purchasing Information
- How do these rugs compare in price to similar premium artist collaboration rugs?
Our Wild South Collection offers exceptional value as a limited artist collaboration, priced up to 50% less than comparable designer rugs while maintaining superior quality and functionality. This pricing strategy reflects our commitment to democratising designer rugs—making premium quality accessible without compromise. Unlike competitors, we've eliminated unnecessary markups while investing in innovative construction methods that add practical value. The machine-washable feature alone (for most pieces) saves significant money on professional cleaning services over the rug's lifetime.
- Can I order swatches before purchasing?
Yes, we offer a convenient swatch kit service to help you make the perfect selection. You can purchase up to 5 swatches for $7 per swatch, and the cost will be deducted from your future rug purchase. Each swatch allows you to experience the exact texture, colour, and quality of our Wild South Collection before committing to a full-sized rug. This service is particularly valuable for this collection, where feeling the texture and seeing the colour variations firsthand truly makes a difference in your decision-making process.
