"Awa" means river in Māori, symbolising the flow of freshwater across the land from its source, known as the headwaters. This reflects the deep connection to New Zealand's terrain, where McMullin's founder, Alice, was born and raised. As a New Zealander, Alice draws inspiration from her homeland, where Māori are connected to water and the natural world through whakapapa — a lineage that traces back from Ranginui and Papatūānuku to people and all elements of the environment.
